The Poynter Society recognizes and honors friends of Children's Hospital & Medical Center who inform us of their intention to invest in the future through planned or deferred gift arrangements.
The society is named in honor or C.W.M. Poynter, M.D., once dean of the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. In the 1920s, Dr. Poynter stood on the College of Medicine campus, looked westward and told his colleagues: "We ought to have a children's hospital out there. We could be doing so much more for the health of our children." He later partnered with Omaha World-Herald publisher Henry Doorly to make Children's a reality in 1948.
